Well what a day it's been! Creating D&T 'masterpieces' is not as easy as it seems! Firstly, I do like a tidy classroom! Well...Sapphire Class was far from tidy today! There were junk materials everywhere but we were being creative and using our investigative skills to make our models so it is to be expected. We have made good progress on our models today - some more than others but everyone will catch up and I am confident that ALL of the models will be ready to display on open evening next Monday. We do need some luck for that though!

Children will need to have their swimming kits in school for just Tuesday (instead of Wednesday) this week. Contrary to the previous message, as Friday is an INSET day, we will not fit an extra session this week.
To be completed by Monday 7th July 3D Words Use play-doh or clay to sculpt your spelling words. If you do not have any play-doh or clay, think about another way that you can make your words 3D e.g. shape fabric into letters, drinking straws... If you can, please take a photo of your words and stick it in your homework book. If you are unable to do this, just get an adult to sign your book to say that the homework has been done! This week's spellings for Wasps and Hornets are words ending in the suffix -ous.
Flip-Up
This game is played by two children (or an adult and a child) with a deck of cards. Remove the jokers and face cards. Shuffle the deck and deal the cards face down. Each player flips over a card from his or her pile. You need to multiply the numbers on each card together, e.g. 3 x 4. The first player to call out the correct answer gets to collect the flipped over cards. If a player calls out the wrong answer, the other player gets the cards. Players continue until all the cards have been flipped over. The winner is the player with the most cards at the end. I just want to thank my lovely class for welcoming me back so enthsuiastically today. (I'd only been off one day!) Also thank you all for the birthday wishes. I wish I could have been with you all yesterday! My birthday just wasn't the same without you! (And no, Lucas, I'm still not telling you my age!) A special big thank you to Maria B for the lovely present! I shall treasure it and display it as long as I am a teacher!
I hope you all have a lovely restful weekend. See you all on Monday! Please could you bring in any litre bottles (or smaller),cardboard, e.g. cereal boxes, bottle lids... any junk materials useful for fairground ride models, before next Monday.
I am not in school tomorrow so I hope you all have a lovely day with Mr Foster. Today we shared our 'Tuesday' books with Emerald and Topaz classes. They really seemed to enjoy finding out about flying frogs who want to take over the world! Sapphire Class really enjoyed sharing their books too! If you have any junk materials at home and you think they might be useful for making parts of fairground rides, please bring them on in!
Today we started to plan our fairground rides. This learning has been a long time coming but we are ready now... and not far off ready to make our rides! After choosing the fairground ride we wanted to make and deciding on the materials and their purposes, some of us began to make a prototype out of K'nex. We are investigating the processes needed to make our rides, e.g. how to create movement.
Spellings We are still working on suffixes. This week, we are going to be looking at -sion and -ous ending. If the ending sounds like /ʒən/, it is spelt as –sion. There are various rules for -ous endings which I will be teaching the children during the next couple of weeks. n during the ndings whs. .to be looking at -sion to
Scrambled Words Fold a piece of paper three times lengthwise (making three long rectangular columns). Write your words in the first column. Then write them again with the letters all mixed up (scrambled) in the second column. Fold over the first column so that you can't see it. Put your words aside. Come back later to unscramble your words. Write the unscrambled words in the third column Numeracy Game Due to be completed by Monday 30th June Play the Eggs on Legs game http://www.primarygames.co.uk/PG5/Eggs/Multi/eggsmult.swf.Ensure that the game you play is appropriate to the rung you are on on the times table ladder. Practise lots of times and when you get really good, try another times table! Have a lovely, restful weekend, all of you. You have worked very hard this week.Hi Sapphires,
Please could you try to practise say 'How old are you?' in French (Quel age a tu? - pronounced - kel arge atu) and your response e.g. Jai neuf ans; Jai huit ans or Jai sept ans (according to whether you are 9, 8 or 7). Maybe, if Mum, Dad, Grandma... are busy you could tell the cat, dog, fish... (don't expect a response from them though - just pretend!) |
