Hi all, As discussed in class. if you did not manage to make an accurate 3D shape (a cube if you're in Triangle Group; a square based pyramid if you are in Square or Oblong Group or a hexagonal prism if you're in Circle Group. Here are some examples: To make it more fun, make it into an Easter gift, e.g. a present full of eggs for Mum, Dad, Grandma...
We had great fun this afternoon! We hunted wild beasts; made a tepee from canes and 'animal skin'; made a camp fire; put up a drying rack and did some fishing! This helped us to understand how people lived during the Stone Age era.
Hi all,
Dance was fantastic today! You did such a great job at 'Thriller'. Here are some pictures! Dexter really has a talent for being a Zombie! Who'd have known! Ha! You were excellent, Dexter. Hi Sapphires, Here is your home learning for this week. You can do a spelling activity of your choice, e.g. pyramid writing, rainbow writing, flashlight writing, join the dots. Please ensure that you practise your spellings every day (even in the holidays, if possible, so that you do not forget them). Also play at least one Maths game from your pack and a times table game, e.g. Flip-Up, Fishy, Fishy Fingers, Bingo, multiplication.com... In addition to this, practise your tables daily. A long holiday, like the Easter break, is the time to find a good book and enjoy it! I certainly intend to read a few good books! If you have any recommendations for other children, please use this blog to make suggestions or tell your friends in class. Happy reading! Year 5 children, Mrs Davis and I have had a fantastic day! We had a little trouble getting to the University of Bat has there were closed roads but once we got there, we were able to browse around lots of science stalls. The children gained lots of new information about many different concepts of Science such as forces, biology, chemistry... and I even learned some Spanish on the way home on the bus... well Maria B tried her best to teach me (and Mrs Challoner and Mrs Davis) but I don't think that I was a very good student!
Here are some pictures of our day. Today the year 4 children, Mrs Targett and I were lucky enough to go on a trip to Wiltshire College in Trowbridge to see the prototype of the car which, in 2016, will hopefully break the land speed record - 1000mph! It's called the 'Bloodhound' and is not yet built (hence the prototype). The children were involved in making a car from k'nex, powered by air and testing it to see how far and how fast it would travel. One of W&B's groups came second in this test and their car travelled the equivalent of more than 272,000mph! The children also took part in some drama where they had to pretend to be the different components of the car such as the fuel (peroxide - this is what you would use on your hair but much, much stronger!) the air, the rocket and the jet engine. We also had to test our reactions by dropping a pole and trying to catch it whilst doing other actions such as rubbing our tummies, standing on one leg and singing 'Mary had a little lamb'! This was to help us to understand how quick the driver's (Andy - a fighter pilot) reactions are! We had varying degrees of success! The final activity was 'telemetry'. This is an automated data collection and measurement process. The children had to 'tell the story' of the line graphs to demonstrate their understanding of them. They had to move car which was linked via Bluetooth to a computer and a graph was automatically generated. It was a brilliant way of helping the children to understand how to read and generate line graphs (continuous data). We had an amazing day! It is a shame that year 5s were not with us too. However, we will all do some follow up learning on this next week and, Year 5s, the Year 4 children will, I am sure, delight in telling you more about our day!
See you all tomorrow. Hi all,
Here is your home learning for this week. Please play 'Hangman' for the spelling task (or 'Mouse and Cheese' similar to Hangman but where you have to get each letter in order before drawing a mouse and cheese!) Make sure that you practise your tables daily - avoid just copying your spellings into each column - you must use LSCWC (Look at the word closely; cover it up; say it aloud; write it down; check it and if it is not correct, you do not know it and must go through the whole process again). Have a particular focus on two spellings each day and ask an adult to test you on these each day. If you get them wrong, more practice is needed! Please also play a Maths game from your pack and practise your tables daily. It really does make a difference if you practise your tables - you improve and move up the tables' ladder! Hi all,
Please do not forget to practise your story map with an adult at home who should complete the 'peer assessment' form to show how much of it you know. This will really help you on Monday morning when we will be using it to complete an extended piece of writing. |
